Good morning/afternoon/evening! Anytime for Coffee that'll work for one and all! Well, since Covid has tumbled our world, our routines and so many social events that we took for granted, it hasn't been as easy to gather for those spontaneous 'chitchats' over coffee. I think it's safe for me to write that we've adapted ways to grab hold of those coffee times whenever!
It is what it is! I often think of the staff at our local coffee shops/restaurants/all businesses actually...Especially here in our town of Gimli, MB. We are a small close knit community where everyone pretty much knows everyone, & it is difficult for them. They have rigid rules to follow and tough as it may be, most of them try their best to be polite with customers who are also friends.
I've just picked up my favorite dark roast and am walking by the lake to take some photos, perhaps find some heart shaped stones. A few regulars pass by, and honestly sometimes I have a difficult time recognizing them unless they speak to me first...or (this may sound off the wall), I happen to know their dogs!
I know I have those mornings where I think: "Is this all there is?' Sounds like I am having my own pity party right? Well it could easily become one, however I truly dislike myself when I let that thought enter my head. Scary....but..
All I have to do is turn on the news and it snaps me out of it pretty quick when I hear of all the turmoil around the world. I give my self 'the talk' to jolt me back on track. I am safe in my own warm house. I have food galore, WiFi, family & friends who keep in constant contact. Then I remind myself of what I always said when I was so busy sometimes I didn't know if I was coming or going! During those years I would tell myself to put things on hold because...."Someday when I retire I will have time for all my arts and crafts! I will write my children's books, paint more pictures. I will read my years & years of collected books, etc. etc. I will color my hair blue if I want to." Sound familiar?
Meeting for coffee has been and still continues to be a challenge but we manage safely. A lot of hours of 'chitchats', passed happily outdoors on walks, safe distanced tables in the park. We found ways. I saw so many friends parked on lots in their own vehicles chit-chatting and still enjoying fellowship over their morning coffee. Everyone has found a safe way because it is important. Life has a way of doing that. And wouldn't you agree that we've all gotten more 'Creative' in many ways? I think we've learned that we can survive on less material things & 'make do' with whatever's handy. These are the upside of all these restrictions that we need to remember and encourage ourselves and anyone around us that needs it. If you are alone having your favorite beverage, pick up your phone, enjoy a chitchat. Someone is waiting for their phone to ring & will be so happy to hear from you. Who instantly come to mind & will probably answer on the second ring? I bet they were thinking about you too.
