COFFEE IN THE SNOW

Updated: Dec 22, 2021

Thanks for having this few minutes with me today. It is a gorgeous brilliant sunny winter day. I wasn't up for a long walk anywhere so I pulled on my high boots, filled my thermo cup and walked out to take some photos of my yard. I almost didn't want to disturb the beauty of the snow. Not one footprint in it. (the little busy tracks around the trees don't count). I always loved being on the beach first thing and looking back at my footprints but this winter morning was a new thing.

This was a painting from a couple years ago, I titled it: 'Crossing Paths'. One clear evening I drove down to Moonlight Bay just to meditate and enjoy the stillness of the night. I walked the short distance from my car with my hot coffee and from my headlights noticed I was not the only one who'd visited here....Frequently. It was a deer trail. I'm so glad I'd taken a photo because it was a memorable experience. Today as I walked around my yard, that memory came back. I recalled how I felt I had been granted a special privilege that may never happen again in the same way. These were very special footprints. I finished my coffee and quietly left. I felt blessed because I knew there were beautiful creatures resting in their safe places for the night. Now I have the painting in memory of that evening.

One of my favorite quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt is this one: 'Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart'.

I have many of those footprints that I will cherish for as long as I live.

Dear Readers, I'm sure as you read this, a name, a face, a memory comes to mind that has left unforgettable footprints on your heart and soul. These are true blessings for us to hold near and dear to help us through the tough times. Footprints that last through the ages and grow dearer and dearer, right? Thanks for reading. I'll be back soon. Lane
