FOUR & STILL COUNTING MORE

Monday, December 27th, 2021. Less than a week and we say farewell to 2021. It was a snowy day but not a bitterly cold one.

In my yard and for as far as I could see...The trees looked like they'd been perfectly decorated. Today was a quiet day & I once again had time to think back on this year. Today I was homesick. I felt old memories tugging at my heartstrings. Looking at all the trees made me wish that I was back at the place I grew up. We had a long driveway to our house & it was appropriately named 'Spruce tree Lane'. Those massive evergreens had been planted when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I sat with my hot coffee this morning and visualized myself standing out beside our front room window of our drafty, rambling old house that was always bulging at the seams with family and friends. Inside the fire crackled and everyone was warm and cozy, whatever the weather.

Although we seemed safe from troubles and poverty, our Mother and Grannie spent most evenings knitting socks, scarves and mittens...sometimes wool sweaters that were donated to those in dire need by our little country church. I also remember playing with handmade dolls and stuffed teddy bears that were made for the children.

Those years have passed more quickly than I could have ever imagined. Each year when I sit and reminisce, haul out the old albums & cards, I'm reminded of how rich we really were, although in those years financially we were quite poor.

Yes, today was a quiet day. I've had the hours to walk down Memory Lane once more from the warmth and comfort of my coffee corner. I'm sure to some of my Readers, these are familiar memories as well. I hope you have had some quiet moments yourself to gather together your own childhood memories. Like everyone else, some of mine are sad and wish they could be changed, but life goes on and while it does, our memories become more treasures with each passing year. Until tomorrow, I wish you a peaceful night.

Blessings always, Lane
