JUST WALKIN' IN THE RAIN

Walking in the rain. What more can I say to this title. If I had decided to stay home through the rain, I'd never get anywhere. So Dear Readers, you know that old saying about 'when life hands you lemons... make lemonade? For me, walking through a summer shower is as refreshing as that glass of lemonade. Although my case it always leads me to coffee.

While I walk, I have my tunes playing & when I arrive at the coffee shop for that welcome, steaming cup, I usually sit and listen to the chatter around me before I begin my journal of the day. Of course lately the subject is mostly RAIN!

Well I decided over the last few rainy days and nights, to do a search about ‘naming that rain’ and I did make some interesting discoveries about what people really think about during the rain. I began with music and going through my playlist about songs that had rain in the title and were all about the rain. After that subject became my focus, there I was, walking all huddled over with my phone inside my jacket because a new title suddenly came to mind. (I never use umbrellas, that would be the normal way to go through the rain while using a phone). However, I saved the titles of the ones I'd thought of with the intent of reading the lyrics as soon as I got into a warmer, environment and coffee.

Rainy day songs and lyrics… I was pleasantly surprised at all the titles in which song writers use rain as their inspiration to write the lyrics. As I kept searching I knew 99.9% of all the songs but it was really refreshing to hear them again! There are so many when I put them together & I'm only listing a few titles & lines of lyrics, otherwise Dear Readers, you'd be reading for hours.

“Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain” (The Cascades). The lyrics are beautifully written by someone who has lost their loved one and what the rain is saying to him about this:

"Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain…

Telling me just what a fool I’ve been.

I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain...And let me be alone again.

The only girl I care about is gone away looking for a brand-new start.

But little does she know that when she left that day...Along with her she took my heart.

Rain please tell her now does this seem fair for her to steal my heart away, when she don’t care.

Rain won’t you tell her that I love her so...

Rain in her heart and let the love start to grow.

O Listen. Listen to the falling rain... Pitter patter, pitter

patter. ***

Here's a great one to perk up that spirit of heaviness. I know he's experienced this one personally for sure because I feel every word.

'I Love a Rainy Night': Eddie Rabbitt

"Well I love a Rainy Night. I love a Rainy Night!

I love to hear the thunder, Watch the Lightning when it Lights up the Sky...

You know it makes me feel good!

Well I love a Rainy Night. It's such a beautiful sight!

I love to feel the rain on my face. Taste the rain on my lips in the moonlight shadows.

Showers wash all my cares away. I wake up to a sunny day, 'Cause I love a rainy night! Yeah! I love a rainy night!" ***

My Dear Readers through the storms, the rain, the dark clouds & whatever else you may be up against at this time, there is a someone who will always come through. They will arrive with that shoulder to lean on and that ear to hear and most of all a heart full of compassion to listen. It has happened for me many many times and always blessed me by leading me out of a dark place into the light of hope. I am writing out the lyrics to my favorite rainy day song. I know I've been rescued by these people during rainy, heartbroken moments in my life. These lyrics say it all better than I can. It’s by Gordon Lightfoot titled: 'Rainy Day People'

'Rainy day people always seem to know when it’s time to call.

Rainy day people don’t talk they just listen till they’ve heard it all.

Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell ya' they've been down like you.

Rainy day people don't mind if you cry on a tear or two.

If you get lonely, all you really need is that rainy day love.

Rainy day people all know there's no sorrow they can't rise above.

Rainy day lovers don't love any others, that would not be kind.

Rainy day people all know how it hangs on a peace of mind.

Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell ya' they've been down there too...

Rainy day people don't mind if you cry on a tear or two.

Rainy day people always seem to know when you're feeling blue.

High steppin' strutters who land in the gutter sometimes need one too.

Take it or leave it or try to believe it... If you've been down too long.

Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside, they just pass it on...Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside....they just pass it on. ***

Dear Readers while in your quiet place having that favorite beverage, perhaps watching the raindrops pour down the window pane, think about who has always come through for you, rain or shine. Maybe it is their turn for your shoulder today or in the near future. Time for you to be their rainy day person because you know what it's like being down there too. As the words to the song, don't hide love inside...pass it on. If someone is on your heart right now, then it's time to be that 'rainy day person'.

Blessings until next time, Lane, your coffee shop writer.

Rain is good in moderation, but not too much 🙂.
