WELL READERS...ON WITH THE SNOW WE GO!

It just keeps right on coming anyways!

My blog the other day was about all my good childhood memories of my 'Snow Days', which as we all know when we become adults means...'work and hard exercise'. Lol!

I thought since we are still in the midst of this overly generous amount that we've been endowed with, I would share one more of my Snow Day memories. This is one I loved with my children and granddaughters, family and neighborhood kids. Thanks to them, I could always be a kid again...Especially when the event happens during the night & is a great surprise...

I loved all the years when I tucked my children into bed at night and then early morning arrived and heard their joyful shouting. They tumbled into our bed, pulling on the blankets and telling us it had happened!

THE FIRST SNOWFALL

'We went to bed and through the night...

God changed the colors from brown to white!

Out of our windows we looked far and near...

We hadn't been dreaming! It was FINALLY here!

SNOW! Landing on trees, covering the hedge...

SNOW! On the doorstep and window ledge!

All the water in our birdbath turned into ice...

But the new bird feeder's blanket looks very nice.

The little furry friends who travel to and fro...

Have left their tiny footprints in the new fallen snow!

Our box for the mail, bright and shiny red,

Wears a comfy blanket like ours on our bed!

The black garden earth is covered snowy white...

Because...

God did all this while we slept through the night!

Off the bed they went, pulling me along, down the stairs to grab jackets over jammers, boots, hats and mitts whether they matched or not and we all dashed outside to make tracks in the snow and taste those brand new 'Icy-lishous' flakes & make the very first snow angels. We'd help one another up so the formation didn't get messed up! Even our Dog, Peppy, joined in the excitement of making her own!

It was our tradition! *****

The same as mine was with my folks and I vividly remember just catching their joy & laughter over a simple thing I loved to do. I love that some of these favorite things aren't really 'things' at all...but precious memories.

I remember the morning I sat at the table with my coffee and wrote this poem for them after we'd gotten our senses back, had breakfast & they went off to school. It has been published several times over the years and is always popular because there is something 'timeless' regardless of age, about that first snowfall.

While you enjoy your hot beverage for the next few moments, don't think about all the work that comes with enormous snowfalls...Rather focus on a happy childhood time when those first snowflakes thrilled you, or the words: Snow Day were music to your ears & you, my Dear Readers blazed trails of your own through knee deep snow drifts & tried to make a perfect snow angel!

*****

I am forever grateful and blessed for my children & grandchildren, family members & all the kids for the times & memories we enjoyed on that 'FIRST SNOWFALL'.

Every year, I watch with new amazement how one season graciously gives way to another as snowflake by snowflake the grey brown sleepy earth gets covered for its time of rest.

Until next time, keep safe and remember to give yourself those moments at some point in your day. You are essential. Here is an update on our increasing daylight minutes for the week. Be encouraged.

Blessings, Lane
